Long time no see

So getting close now. Only 1,5 weeks to the big challenge. I know its gonna be 10 hours in pain, but funny enough, I’m looking forward to it now.

What has happened the last couple of months?

Not much to be honest. I have been training of course, but 1 month ago I started to have knee problems, and i started to panic a bit because I couldn’t really cycle and started to fear i couldn’t do the marmotte, but then I did like Søren, I went to a bikefitter and after 2 hours with him…bang…. my knee problems was gone. Unreal, but very nice!

This saturday I did the Vættern which is a 300 km race in Sweden.

We were 3 guys doing it. I felt much better than expected, I had some trouble from 110 km to 140 km but after that I started to feel stronger again and basically after 200 km I really felt on top of it. We did it in 9 hours and 26 minutes which is fine, as our target was sub 10 hours…..

This is how you look after 230 km

Claus and me just crossed the magic 300km line

Back in Denmark

My legs still hurts after Mallorca, every time I have to go upstairs at home my legs reminds me of that…they feel heavy and very tired…But sunday 24 riders would join FBL’s sunday ride, and Søren had an outdoor début in Denmark, so I had to go, even with heavy legs.

Not my sunday, I thought it was spring so didn’t use my winter clothes, so I was on my bike freezing for 4.5 hours, it was 5 degrees and very, very windy….As soon as we got to the countryside that wind hit us straight in the face of course…and i felt we had headwind for the next  4 hours ;) i had heavy, heavy legs and that  showed very quickly because first time we had to do intervals i couldn’t sit with my group at all…so all in all felt like 4.5 hours in pain and was very tired of this project sunday afternoon….Søren did ride very, very well, but that  didn’t surprise me at all that he felt strong…

But what a change two days can do to your body and mind….for the first time after Mallorca my legs felt fine….so went out with FBL Tuesday evening, and finally a bit of success we cycled about 4 small races that evening and in 3 of them I did ride very, very well…and I actually won over guys that 2-3 weeks ago still was able to smash me up…

That really felt nice and leaves a little hope for me……have a nice easter……cya next week

Mallorca day 4

Hmmmm it rains, not much, but its raining, which mean cycling downhills gets very very dangerous, but we like to cycle so we wanna try to get out……after 350 meters i hear a crash behind me…look back and see Soren is down and he stays down, so im bit scared he broke something….

When Søren got up again and we realise nothing is broken and he ‘only’ had some scratches at his arm and leg…. I think it’s too risky to keep going so i follow Søren back to the flat, bit annoying to stay in the flat one day, when we only here for a long weekend, but it’s very important to avoid injuries etc….

All in all a good trip, it gave me some idea’s what im facing the 3rd july….and i realised two things…

1: i still need alot of training, ALOT

2: i serios need to lose 5 kg, so i dont ave to carry too much over the mountains….

Cya back in denmark

Mallorca day 3

As i knew there was a price to pay today, because we climbed too many meters yesterday, and this is how you look when you don’t really feel like climbing mountains again….

Henrik felt rough due to a some dodgy food last night, Claus was extreme tired like me, so it was nice that Steen joined us, he came with some new energy and got us all on our bikes……first stop came after 2 mountains and Henrik and Claus decided that it was enough for today and after we all got a coke and espresso, they went home and Søren, Steen and me took one more climb…

Our own Alpe Huez was the last one on the way out……i really wanted to go up in style but just had to admit my legs was smashed after yesterday, so as soon as Soren accelerated i had to let him and Steen go and just cycle up in my speed….

After 1300 meters of climbing we had enough and went back to Port Andratx……..I heard it’s also about eating the right food, so I always check out the menu, so im sure i get the right mix of carbs and protein !!!

Mallorca day 2

Ready set goooooooooooooooooooo……………Sunny, we couldn’t have asked for more, as you can see this have cycling written all over…

We are based in the mountains, so after 10km we hit first mountain and it doesn’t take long before Søren and Henrik is out of sight….i knew that would happened but maybe had hoped that i could have sat with them a bit longer….

best part of the day…..a nice lunch break and a fantastic view…..we have about 25 km home, what we don’t know at this stage is the road ahead of us is blocked, and we have to go back the same we came which means 4 more mountains……

2500 meters of climbing (half marmotte) at my first ever ride in the mountains ….crazy and stupid, but because of the blocked road, we couldn’t have done it different……on the way home i actually was able to sit with Soren and Henrik but i had to give 110 pct all the time to sit with them…….and this will have a price tomorrow……………………

Mallorca day 1

Finally, we are on our way to Mallorca, its gonna be so nice to ride the summerbike again, and so nice to get some kind of idea how your body reacts to a mountain or two….the morning starts 6:30 with a phone call from Steen he had been sick all night and wont join us…i thought he was joking in the beginning but he wasnt, Steen will rest the whole day and try and join us tomorrow.

It feels good to unpack the cervelo, even with 10 thumps i succed……as you can see its a nice view we have, and now we are only a dinner and a nights sleep away from some serious cycling…..

Coll de Soller…here we come

Finally its time to go to Mallorca, time to get the summerbike out, time to flash the new sidi shoes and time to get absolute killed by the mountains at Mallorca…..i can’t wait, we fly out thursday and back home late sunday……the rumour say 20 degrees….

What happened since last time we spoke. Well training, training and training, so not any rock n roll lifestyle at the moment…just realized havent had any alcohol for 2 mth, that must be a personal record….

Typical week looks like this:

Tuesday: about 65 km after work, where main focus is on HIIT training with FBL (my cyclingclub)

Thursday: spinning, or small trip outdoor again focus on HIIT training

Sunday: 110 km with FBL,  where we basic do a bit of everything

There is still a long long way for me, at the moment im bit frustrated because it doesn’t feels like im getting anywhere, but the good and experienced riders in FBL told me to keep working hard, and slowly but surely the shape will be there…..fingers crossed…….have fun

Training continues: hail, rain, or snow!

After 2 weeks in the Maldives it’s time to get this party started. So today should have been this year’s first four-hour ride outdoors…..But, Denmark is still covered in snow and it’s minus LOTS degrees. It has been the same for the last two months….So, I went for spinning class instead only for an hour. As Soren said, the spinning starts to bore me too but have to keep up and keep going! I do hope that I can ride outdoors soon. I feel I’m getting behind the schedule now…..

So, the plan for this week:

Monday: 1 spinning class and then follow by some interval i create myself for approx 30min..

Wednesday: 1 spinning class and then interval for myself for 1 hour more….

Rest of week not sure yet, have fun and see you

Training: behind but not out!

Hi all,

Soren’s explained our cycling club’s day-of-testing best in his post. My results – a lot worse than Soren’s. In my test I do about 100 watt less than in Soren’s average but, to be honest with you, that’s  A LOT because our weight is about the same. The test day is far away from my best day on the bike. Also, for some reason my max pulse was 6 beats under normal, so there are other factors which make up the result. But these aren’t my excuses. Still doesn’t change the fact that Soren is admittedly better than me and I have a massive gap to close.

Since the test I have spent 2 weeks on the lovely Maldives with my family, which are my wife Betina and my son August, he is 3.5 years old…Great holiday, but while I was away Soren has trained, so the gap might be even bigger now…..

You can see how stupid I look doing a max test and trying to smile, not a great combi ehhhhh…..
